Right-Sizing Features for SAFe Program Increments
Our friend and ‘mad scientist’ Ian Spence has more than his share of street cred when it comes to working with SAFe. He is the Chief Scientist at Gold Partner Ivar Jacobson International, was one of the first SPCTs in Europe (the highest SAFe certification possible), and has worked with Dean Leffingwell for over 15 years. His deep knowledge of Agile and his vast experience leading large-scale transformations have given him a exceptionally well-rounded understanding of what it takes to succeed with SAFe.
Ian has contributed a new SAFe guidance article, Right-Sizing Features for SAFe Program Increments. He believes that “one of the key activities that will help make your SAFe program a success is the careful preparation of your Features prior to Program Increment (PI) planning. And one important aspect of this preparation is to slice up any of the targeted features that are too large to be easily delivered within a PI.”
The article includes:
- The differences between features and stories
- Splitting stories vs. slicing features
- Good and bad patterns for slicing features
As an added bonus, Ian provides a cool Feature slicing poster that you can download.
I hope you find this new article as interesting and useful as I did.
Always be SAFe,
Richard Knaster and the Framework team
